Singapore Indesign 2016 ~ 8 October 2016

Singapore Indesign is back! And this time it is going back to the original winning concept - showcasing a boutique design event in one day, on 8 October 2016.

What is Singapore Indesign?

  • A one-day design experience like no other! Held annually, you will have the privilege to discover design tours, attend talks by industry experts and opportunities to connect with architects, interior designers and industry professionals.
  • Free hop-on/hop-off shuttle buses bringing you to pop-ups, studios and showrooms around Singapore.
  • Be the first to witness product launches, unique collaborations, and Instagram-worthy design installations at each stop.
The Event has been held annually in design centres across the Asia Pacific for over a decade. Inspired by the idea that a design event should itself be highly designed, Indesign is immersive, curated and experiential. Save the date. Singapore’s leading boutique design event for architects, interior designers, specifiers and design lovers to discover, share and connect returns on 8 October 2016, 10:00am to 7:00pm.

Singapore Indesign will see design's leading names opening up their showrooms across the city's key design precincts, while other nigh names will be housed in a strategically located Shared Space at 72-13 Mohamed Sultan Road.

Exhibitors at Singapore Indesign 2016 includes EDL, Greenlam Laminates, Haworth, Kokaine, Kreon, Kvadrat, Luxxbox, OM, Scandinavian Business Seating, Schiavello, Space Furniture and Sunbrella.

World-renowned, UK-based design studio Doshi Levien will be part of designer guest lineup at this year’s Singapore Indesign, while the highly popular Design Conversations also returns with a range of heated topical industry panel discussions and talks.

Singapore Indesign offers the local design industry an event that is truly bespoke. It is immersive, tailored, insightful, and showcases some of the best products, works and talent to be found in our community and beyond,” says Raj Nandan, CEO of Indesign Media Asia Pacific.

New Project - Launch of Petite Pompom

It has been almost 4 years since we bought and renovated our 2 bedrooms condo. We are branching out and have embarked on a few new exciting projects and it will definitely add more reading content to our existing blog…hurray!

Our biggest and newest project is the launch of our own online company Petite Pompom which specialises in baby gift hampers for newborns, baby showers and first month baby hampers.

The name Petite Pompom comes to mind almost immediately when I wanted to start the business as I adore pompoms and petite refers to small or little. It really was that easy!

On our Petite Pompom website, we will also feature articles on baby fashions, baby care tips, upcoming baby fairs so please do check out our new website from time to time:

Travel Diary

We travel extensively round the world in Asia, Europe, North America and we felt that travel is something which readers are interested in. Planning is something that I love to do…..I enjoy planning events, parties and it is no surprise that I love planning holidays and road trips right up to the tiny, little details. The experience of having worked in the travel industry does comes in handy as my last job involves budgeting and planning itineraries for travellers.

We love checking out the off beaten paths when we visit a destination and most of the time I plan out my own detailed itinerary as it allows us to stay at any place we want, travel at our own pace and choose the best places of interest to visit.

In my new travel blog, I will be sharing pictures of my travels, my own personal travel itineraries and tips. For some of you readers out there, you can just book your flight tickets and accommodation and follow my travel itinerary especially if you are the type who hates planning but do not wish to go on a tour bus with full of tourists.

Here are some of the sneak peak of our travels:

Mount Sturgeon, The Grampians Victoria
Monaco
Ceylon Tea Trails, Sri Lanka
Hoi An, Vietnam
Yarra Valley, Melbourne Australia
Look out for my new travel diary!

Stylish Container Homes ~ USA & Canada

I have always been fascinated with container homes. I really think it is amazing how you can transform a cargo container into a stylish beautiful home! Can you believe that a typical shipping container size is 20ft and 40ft? That is a really small home, but designers and architects have been creating stylish homes from shipping containers with stunning results.

This is the typical floor plan of a container home

Check out below videos on the how container homes are built and styled. These are some of my favourite videos. Enjoy!

"This 592-square-foot “plug and play getaway” wasn’t designed to blend into nature, but to float above it; fifty thousand pounds of glass and steel serve as a frame for the surrounding landscape. The small prefab can house 4 people: 2 on a daybed and 2 in a loft bedroom."

"Like the title says, this tiny house has it all. Huge kitchen, full-sized jacuzzi tub, sliding overhead glass door, king bed, stow away dining."

"Literally building a home from scratch for under $50,000 – using a shipping container!"

"Newlywed architect and stylist converted a 366-square-foot grain silo into their first home, leading them to pare down and simplify their urban Phoenix lifestyle. Their home even incorporates a great outdoor shower!"

My home sweet home - More pictures!

Hello everyone, thought I would do an updated pictures of my home as I never really did post the fully completed pictures. I did everything from the sourcing of the furnitures, plants, decoration and more....so it took some time to put this place together.

Here are the pictures of my dining and living room, looking out into the little balcony. The pictures were taken right before Christmas, hence you can see the poinsettia next to my fiddle leaf fig plant. By the way the poinsettia lasted a good whole 3 months...I'm impressed! But I'm told that if well taken care of, the poinsettia will bloom again in season.

From this picture you can see how narrow and tiny our balcony is....but we managed to squeeze in a set of table and chairs and plants!! It's all about choosing the size size furniture. As it is quite sunny and we do like to seat outdoor for breakfast on weekends, we are going to purchase a small outdoor parasol from Ikea soon andI will upload a photo of it.

Here I am trying to train my bougainvillea to grow along the balcony rail as well as up my moss fixture. By the way those small white lanterns have battery operated led lights in them and they look really pretty switched on in the evening.

You will notice in the master bedroom bed has a black headboard (which we brought over from our previous apartment and we did not want to spend additional money purchasing a new headboard). It is not easy to blend in as black is not in our colour concept for the home, but we do our best!

Our master bathroom with bathtub for two ;)

This the view looking into the bathroom from the master bedroom. The glass window brings in lots of light and you have the view out of bedroom window from the tub.
Soaking tub with a view! I love it!

Kitchen / Dining photos (Completed)

Renovation is finally completed and I will be posting the updated photos by the respective rooms category (Kitchen/Dining, Living room/Balcony, Study cum guest bedroom, Common bathroom, Master bathroom and Master bedroom).

Please bear with me as I have taken quite a lot of photos and I am trying to select the best quality photos :) I am really happy that our home turns out to be 90% close to my design concept and ideas. Decorating the apartment took some time as I purchased most of the home accessories after the completion of the renovation.

I am excited to upload photos of our Kitchen and Dining room!!
As you enter the home, you will see the kitchen and dining area first. We try to create the best first impression:)
The beautiful Ark dining table.
Small but very functional kitchen island!

Retractable Bosch hood - Perfect fit for our small kitchen!
Loving my Bath & Body Works 3-wicks candle!
Tip: Useful to have in an open-concept kitchen to get rid of post-cooking smell;)
Check out the below pictures! See how close it is to the 3D drawing?

Furniture shopping at Air, Commune & more!

We Love Air....or should I say I Love Air!

Air has a beautiful collection of modern contemporary and wood furniture. I fell in love with their glass coffee table but as I have inherited a solid wood coffee table (it has been with my family for more than 30 years).... this coffee table shall just remain in my wish list :(
Look how gorgeous this coffee table is!
Totally adore this TV console and we spent weeks thinking if we should but it or not. Even though it is on sale, it is still expensive.

Eventually we settled for this console (see below) from Commune as it cost half the price of the console from Air.

We saw this 8-seater dining table from Air and it was love at first sight for both of us. We enjoy inviting friends and family over for dinner and the size and length of the table is perfect for us! As the price was out of our budget even after 40% discount, we decided that we will try to look for a similar table elsewhere.
Ark dining table from Air.
Another view of the amazing Ark table.
We saw a similar table from Picket & Rail (it looks quite similar but of course it cannot be compared to the Ark table) at a very attractive price. The package price comes with a set of 6 dining chairs.

Picket & Rail dining table
We almost settled for the Picket & Rail dining set but I just could not bring myself to proceed with the purchased (I must have visitied the store 5 or 6 times). After months of pondering, both myself and hubby decided we will go with out first love...the Amazing Ark table :-))

If it took us this long just to decide on a dining table, in our hearts we should know that we do not want any other table but the Ark.....

Mirror from Air which we also purchased.
Picture does not do justice to how beautiful this mirror is.
Next is the serch for the perfect sofa. Our requirement...it must be in leather with extendable leg rest in the middle seat (so we could both stretch out and cuddle up while watching a movie...haha)! Finally after a long search, we found our sofa at City Square Mall!
